The work around I used was to create a file (as root) /etc/modprobe.d/saa7134.conf
In that file I placed the following content: blacklist saa7134 blacklist saa7134_alsa
I then rebooted the machine
The pro of this is that you do not have to unplug the card, but you may still require a reboot for it to work.
I currently don't use the card, so having it disabled permanently is not a big problem for me.
