Hi

The work around I used was to create a file (as root) /etc/modprobe.d/saa7134.conf

In that file I placed the following content:
blacklist saa7134
blacklist saa7134_alsa

I then rebooted the machine

The pro of this is that you do not have to unplug the card, but you may still require a reboot for it to work.

I currently don't use the card, so having it disabled permanently is not a big problem for me.

Just another option.

Hello,

Yes it is better than unplugging the device. I just found out the problem has bigger scale. It affects other programs too. In Skype only available video deivce is TV-card. Webcam testing program Cheese does not start:
$ cheese
libv4l2: error getting pixformat: Inappropriate ioctl for device

Problems started after clean install of Ubuntu 13.10. Before I was using upgrade from 13.04.

My TV-card is ASUS My Cinema P-7131 Hybrid. And yes, it uses SAA7134 modules.

Same problem here with AverMedia A16AR (uses saa7134).
Had to remove the card. Before that, I tried to make the system identify the card by creating a file in modprobe.d which contained "options saa7134 card=99" but I could not get it to work.
Here is some output from dmesg during boot.

Hello everybody.

Thanks for this thread! It saved me from further headache...

I use Ubuntu 14.04 (64amd) on a Gigabyte G41M-ES2l (R.1.0). And my problem was also: User-acocunts --> Click --> and nothing (absolutely nothing) happend...

Then I read this thread and realized that my USB-TV-Stick (streams Video and Sound from e.g. an old VCR (via Cinch) to USB Port and Soundcard) made by "Conrad Electronic" (DVD-Creator, VS-USB2800D) was still plugged in. As soon as I plugged it out... Boom! Everything worked!

Hi, sorry for bothering, but this bug also affects me. Cheese just hangs, and Camorama/TVTime only work if I say it to go to an specific device (I say specific because at least once they changed places, and I had to reconfigure both programs - I tried to put a rule in rules.d but to no avail).
My tv card is an enltv-fm3 that uses the saa7134 and saa7134_alsa modules.
Skype works well.
"gnome-control-center user-accounts" hangs without anything showing, BUT I know it is trying to use the tv card because ut unmutes the line and I can hear the feed from the latest tunned channel.

Is there anything I can do until then?
