Hello, I got this same bug. I think it started some time ago when I tried to fix a splash screen error. I read a tutorial on how to do it but I did something wrong...Since then, I'm getting this error when updating, or installing new programs...Then I read this post: http://www.ubuntu-es.org/node/135772
The first response there talks about something related to /etc/default/grub
In my case, i had a syntax error, using a ” instead of " The quotation marksare diferents, the first one is like italic, the second one should be the right one

The first response there talks about something related to /etc/default/grub
In my case, i had a syntax error, using a ” instead of " The quotation marksare diferents, the first one is like italic, the second one should be the right one
example: LINUX_DEFAULT= ”quiet splash nomodeset video=uvesafb: mode_option= 1366x768 LINUX_DEFAULT= "quiet splash nomodeset video=uvesafb: mode_option= 1366x768
GRUB_CMDLINE_
instead of
GRUB_CMDLINE_
In my case, this solved the issue. I'm not sure if this would work for all cases.
