Same here on mom's pc running Xubuntu 9.04 i386 (console messages in Portuguese):

$ googleearth

$ sudo mv /usr/lib/googleearth/libcrypto.so.0.9.8.removed-by-installer /usr/lib/googleearth/libcrypto.so.0.9.8
