Bug Description

Good day!

I am reporting this bug after this one has been fixed: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/885730
This is because an issue remained with incorrect keyboard layout displaying by the indicator.

The problem is in the first keyboard layout switching right after start of an application. The first switching leads to actual change of the layout but it is not followed by the indicator change.

To reproduce:
1) Start any application (say, gedit). The layout is "en" and the indicator shows also "en".
2) Switch the layout to the other. The layout will actually be changed but the indicator will still show "en" which is incorrect.

And one more observation. If you do something (press Alt to reveal HUD, switch to another window and then return back) before the first layout change, the indicator will react correctly after that.
Also, I can reproduce this within both settings "Use the same layout for all windows" and "Allow different layouts for individual windows".

Thank you!

P.S. This is my first bug report, so if something is wrong, I give my sincere apology. Please correct me then.

I'm sorry for bothering all the subscribers, but this bug still exists in Raring. As I can see from the blueprint https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-r-gnome-fallback , the keyboard layout indicator will not be rewritten “to be a proper indicator” within the Raring cycle. Thus, we will have this long-living bug for another half a year unless it will be fixed.
At the moment, Raring shows promise to be quite good and stable release. Maybe it is a good time to finally fix this old annoying bug to increase the overall stability and usability of Raring?..

Keyboard indicator is being written: https://code.launchpad.net/~attente/+junk/indicator-keyboard. It won't be in raring, but hopefully there will be a PPA.

Dmitry, thank you for the valuable information!
Definitely, a new indicator is much better than fixing a bug in an expected-to-be-obsolete component. Let's hope it will indeed be available soon via PPA.

As for me, I do not experience this bug any more in 13.10. It looks like it's finally fixed. Thanks!
If nobody else can see the "first switching" issue, then, I believe, the ticket can closed.
