Comment 7 for bug 137118

we have a P3 450Mhz (512MB) slow machine that takes a minute or so to display a full working desktop (gnome) after we choose the login user. in this time we just look at an empty screen with no visual indication of any login progress. suddenly we here the login sound (which is redundant, especially if we want to optimize stuff) but it stays (visually) the same until half a minute later it start showing the desktop's toolbars...

please see if you can enable some minimal "desktop is load..." indication. (change the cursor, maybe?)
