Comment 8 for bug 423694

this is not a dupe of bug 397839 which is the main cause atm for this widget/tray thing to show up.

This bug is about this tray feature on its own. Either don't display anything, or make it more useful. just displaying that your screen is broken without allowing to take any action is bad.
