"When I unchecked "Reduce backlight brightness" and "Dim display when
idle" under the battery tab in the Power Management Preferences the
g-p-m does not appear to stop responding anymore."

workaround works! On Acer Aspire One 150 (1GiG ram, 160Gig HDD version)
