Are you running PulseAudio? If yes, I suggest you report a bug to PulseAudio if you have been running it with "module-device-restore" (see http://pulseaudio.org/wiki/Modules#module-device-restore) ----
I am going to try to check if the module is enabled in Karmic, and if so if I can report a bug to PulseAudio as suggested.
