Right. That Compiz output looks right, suggesting that this is a
gnome-control-center bug. Can you run "apport-collect -p
gnome-control-center 421307" to collect the standard details. Also, the
output of running "gnome-appearance-properties" in the terminal and
trying to enable desktop-effects might be interesting.
