Can confirm this happens to me when intalling numlockx
and adding
greeter-setup-script=/usr/bin/numlockx on
to /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

$ cat /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
[SeatDefaults]
user-session=ubuntu
greeter-session=unity-greeter
greeter-setup-script=/usr/bin/numlockx on

$ apt-cache policy lightdm
lightdm:
  Installed: 1.4.0-0ubuntu4
  Candidate: 1.4.0-0ubuntu4
  Version table:
 *** 1.4.0-0ubuntu4 0
        500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Booting to the greeter sometimes fails and sends me to a black screen and x-cursor.
Once booted, any subsequent logout always goes to a black screen and x-cursor.
