Bug Description

My computer, a Dell Dimension 5150 N-series, has only a USB keyboard. The boot menu ignores the keyboard until the boot process start (boot process means after the countdown go to zero).
I have this problem with 7.10 release, but not with 7.04 and 6.10 releases (as mentioned in #146369 and #154702).

ISO file and CD content md5sum is ok... the keyboard is ok (i`m typing from a 8.04 LiveCD session now).

Found a workaround in bug 35530. You have to press down the shift key during boot.

About the workaround...

When I press shift I`m prompted:
boot graphics? (yes | no) > yes
detect display? (yes | no) > yes

then, I receive this message (in both cases of "detect display")
gfx code:
mem area 0 0x00052a10 - 0x0009fc00
mem area 1 0x00800000 - 0x00900000
mem area 2 0x00a00000 - 0x00b00000

Press a key to continue...

When I press the key, I receive a lot (~20) lines about memory.

If I choose "boot graphics? > no" I receive the old style boot screen and the keyboard works fine.

I`m running 8.04 (Hardy Heron) Alpha4

Can you reproduce this bug in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS or Ubuntu 12.04 LTS? Thank you for telling us!

This has not been a problem, at least on MY system (Dell Dimension E510) for several years. Possibly not since 8.10 Intrepid. I just upgraded recently to 12.04.1 LTS and it wasn't a problem.

Just in case I set something in the BIOS way back when, I just looked and there is no "Legacy USB" setting in my BIOS that I can find.

OH I should have specified that I upgraded to 12.04.1 by booting from an .iso and installing over the 10.04 system, preserving the /home partition. SO, yes, I ran the installer from the liveCD image.
