If you edit the:-
/usr/share/applications/gdebi.desktop
launchers 'Exec' line to:-

Exec=gksudo gdebi-gtk %f

So gdebi-gtk prompts for the password BEFORE loading, it works perfectly .. maybe a pkexec issue ?
