Bug Description
Binary package hint: gajim
This bug is a less severe version of a similar bug in psi (bug #78469).
Gajim needs to handle gateway connections more intelligently, at least as far as yahoo gateways are concerned.
Even though I have configured Gajim to log into my jabber accounts automatically, I have to log in to the yahoo network through the gateway (at jabber.dk) manually. It ought to be possible to configure this to happen automatically.
The new mail notifications are annoying, although they are not a major nuisance because they dismiss themselves after they pop up. Still, they are distracting and it would be nice to be rid of them altogether.
The "authorization accepted" messages for each of my yahoo buddies which I receive at log in are much more annoying because each one has to be dismissed individually by clicking or hitting the escape key. If I had a lot more buddies than I do this would render gajim unusable for connecting to yahoo.

It is starting to look like this problem is not limited to gateways. For instance I have just configured gajim to connect to gmail.com server and now I get new mail notifications from there too.
The simplest fix might be to be able to set gajim to automatically discard messages containing certain strings, e.g . ["You have "*" new messages"].
