Psi doesn't handle (yahoo) gateway connection intelligently enough

Bug Description

Binary package hint: psi

When I connect to yahoo from psi via a gateway (the one at jabber.dk in this case) I get the following types of annoying messages:

1. A notification at login telling me how many mails I have in my yahoo inbox
2. A notification at login on behalf of each of my yahoo buddies telling me that my authorisation has been accepted
3. A notification each time new mail arrives in my inbox

In addition I have to log in manually to the yahoo gateway even when psi is configured to log into my jabber account automatically. It ought to be possible to automate this.

I understand that at least some of these problems are server side issues, but even so it would certainly be possible and desirable for Psi to work with them in a more intelligent way.

For instance, with regard to the "authorization accepted" messages, Gajim displays each of these in a popup window which means they can all be easily dismissed by hitting escape a few times. Psi, on the other hand, requires me to click on each buddy in turn to open a window and then dismiss each window. The new mail notifications are also very painful in psi, but are even easier to ignore and then dismiss in Gajim. Of course it would be better if it were possible to suppress such messages altogether.

It should also be possible to log in through a gateway automatically.

You have to tell the transport that you don't want these messages. If you cannot do this, this is a server issue.

If you think Psi should handle these messages differently, please visit the psi conference MUC: go to psi->general->help->visit discussion room (or similar)

And it *is* possible to log in through a gateway automatically. Does the transport have your authorisation?

I close this bug for now, but feel free to reopen it, if you think this is really a bug in Psi.
