I have found a workaround for my specific problem:
gksu gedit ~/.local/share/applications/defaults.list Add line: application/msword=wine-extension-doc.desktop Under [Default Applications](previously empty) Followed by(in terminal): update-desktop-database ~/.local/share/applications
But shouldn't this(or something equivalent) be done by Ubuntu once I select it as my default application to open .doc files in nautilus?
