Thank you for reporting the issue.

We need more info to troubleshoot the issue.
- Please could you tell us which version of Ubuntu 10.04 you are using? Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
You can find out by typing "uname -m" in a terminal. If it returns "x86_64", then you're using 64-bit version.

- When launching firefox from the terminal, does it leave any message upon exit?

Can you please check if any message is added to ~/.xsession-errors while Firefox is running?

Thank you.

Nothing happens if I try to run Firefox from the terminal and the only error message I get is when I try to shut down my netbook: a window opens telling that "Firefox-bin svarar inte" = doesn't answer. I have the Swedish version of Ubuntu.
Thanks

Could it be a bad extension problem?

Please try running firefox with this command: "firefox -safe-mode"
(it disables extensions and themes)

Another thing to try is to rename your profile to check if the problem comes from something in the profile:
- move profile: mv ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla.bak
- start firefox.
- if it changes nothing:
   - erase newly created dir: rm -rf .mozilla
   - restore profile: mv ~/.mozilla.bak ~/.mozilla

A couple of people seems to have had this problem and deleting secmod.db in ~/.mozilla/firefox/<PROFILE> seems to solve it.

It worked until I close Firefox and when restarting it the same problem came up again. But deleting secmod.db did the trick.

I created a second profile to check if this would help. And in fact Firefox starts but I get a window with the message:
Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.

Well as I understand it there was a conflct with a bank ID program : Nexus. After uninstalling and reinstalling this bank ID programme the problem was solved. I found this solution on the Swedish Ubuntu Web Site:
