I have given up using Firefox on Karmic, due to its crashing all the
time. I use Epiphany instead, usually. Hopefully this will get some
attention by the time 10.04 LTS goes into alpha.

It's completely normal that you lose data on "Windows" platforms.
That's why you have a UNIX or Linux or BSD server for backups.
