Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

I don't know if this has been reported before or not (probably it has), but I couldn't find it, and anyway, I wouldn't know which of the multiple Firefox crash reports corresponds to my case.
Anyway, Firefox 3.5 segfaults many times a day, most often (but not necessarily) when I open a new page with Flash content. I'm attaching a backtrace I just got on GDB, via "thread apply all bt full".

I've recently obtained a shorter backtrace from another one of the usual crashes.

Thank you for trying to help triage bugs. We generally try to comment
on bugs when we perform an action. Also, I was wondering why you
marked those two backtraces as duplicates.
Feel free to hop in #ubuntu-bugs with questions. Someone's usually in
there to answer all the time.
I'm micahg on freenode if you want to chat.

Thank you,
Micah

Those two traces weren't marked as duplicates. I've obtained them on two of the usual Fx crashes. They're different (one is about twice the other's size) but I think they point to the same problem.

Sorry, the message to Felipe was meant to be an E-Mail and not a bug
comment. The bug report is fine.

Thanks for the report, are you using uim? the crash seems to be related to that, could you install the uim gtk2 dbgsym packages and get a new backtrace? thanks.

Firefox has been crashing or locking up very frequently in the past 2 days or so on my Averatec 3280 laptop. Also sometimes when it does crash, a message comes up saying that there isn't enough free memory to send an automatic bug report. Epiphany does not seem to have this problem.

Subscribing to an existing bug report seems to have lost the files that were automatically generated when I used ubuntu-bug - or are they somewhere?

Shortest backtrace so far.
The problem is getting worse, with Firefox crashing every 10 minutes or so.

I've just noticed these crashes do not happen as often (if at all - I haven't been able to reproduce it) on Firefox 3.0.

I've just had Ubuntu installed (2days ago) and this is the first time Firefox crashed, But it used to crash many times a day everyday before that. I was using Windows and it would crash when I was linked to a foreign newspaper.

Do you have an NVIDIA graphics card?

There seems to be an nvidia + flash crash issue that needs research. Which nvidia drivers are you using?

Oh, I've just reproduced this crash twice in five minutes on a 32-bit system with an ATi card, so I doubt it's related to nVidia.

This is a backtrace I got from one of the many Firefox crashes on the aforementioned ATi system.
It seems to me it even happens more often on my ATi system than on my nVidia one.

I have given up using Firefox on Karmic, due to its crashing all the
time. I use Epiphany instead, usually. Hopefully this will get some
attention by the time 10.04 LTS goes into alpha.

It's completely normal that you lose data on "Windows" platforms.
That's why you have a UNIX or Linux or BSD server for backups.
