This is appearing to be a video issue.
Could you please paste the output of the command
dpkg -l | grep "^ii" | grep "linux-
on here
Could you also please let us know what your graphics card is (nvidia/ati etc..)?
This will help us with your issue and push it to the right devs if necessary.

Status in “firefox-3.0” source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete
Bug description:
My screen resolution has gone from 1280/768 to 640/480 all by itself. I can't change it back as there is not the option to go smaller only larger! Please help.
