Not sure if the open source driver blacklist has made it into the fix yet - this caused my screen to be blank after updating.
See previous comments #114 #119 and #120.
I didn't need to change nomodeset, but I did need to add "blacklist amdgpu" to the end of /etc/modprobe.
Then it worked fine for me on an R9 290.
