For reference: Testing with an Epson WF-3620 on the local network.

Kubuntu 16.04.1 - Proper installation, fully updated:

Installed printer-driver-escpr using apt (universe repository enabled), then added the printer using the printer installation wizard (DNS-SD, "Epson/EPSON WF-3620 Series ..." in printer selection).
-> Printing a test page works*.
Side note: I had installed the driver from manually-downloaded .debs before (for 15.10 and earlier), but completely wiped / during the installation of 16.04.1.

Xubuntu 16.04.1 - Live system (no updates, no package DB update) in VirtualBox:

Installed the printer using the printer installation wizard, selecting "epson-escpr" as driver.
According to /var/log/apt/history.log, epson-inkjet-printer-escpr and dependencies got installed.
-> Printing a test page and one page of a PDF (via Firefox) works*.
The universe repository was enabled by default.

Ubuntu 16.04.1 - Live system (no updates, no package DB update at first) in VirtualBox:

The printer installation wizard allegedly installed epson-inkjet-printer-escpr.
The printer model had to be selected manually, but I couldn't find it in the printer database; thus I canceled the wizard. Looking at apt's log, the driver had not been installed.
Trying to install epson-inkjet-printer-escpr manually (after sudo apt update) fails with dependency issues.
-> But: After enabling the universe repository (and sudo apt update), installing the printer works just as in Xubuntu. Printing a test page works, too*.

Kubuntu 16.04.1 - Live system (no updates, no package DB update) in VirtualBox:

The printer installation wizard shows the printer, but not via DNS-SD; thus I canceled the wizard.
I didn't investigate further why it doesn't work in the live system in contrast to the installed one.

* Set "Media Type" in the printer's options to "plain papers-Standard-Vivid" or "plain papers-High" to get proper, dark colors.
