same problem here. I found a temp workaround:
1. slighlty reduce the size of the kde panel to leave a small space on the right 2. use trayer (apt-get install trayer) to place a new icon trayer at the new space you just created. For me this does the trick:
trayer --edge bottom --align right --transparent true --widthtype request --heighttype request --alpha 10 --heigh ttype pixel --height 30
then you can see the dropbox icon!
