same problem here. I found a temp workaround:

1. slighlty reduce the size of the kde panel to leave a small space on the right
2. use trayer (apt-get install trayer) to place a new icon trayer at the new space you just created. For me this does the trick:

trayer --edge bottom --align right --transparent true --widthtype request --heighttype request --alpha 10 --heigh
ttype pixel --height 30

then you can see the dropbox icon!

I'm sorry, here is the correct command line

trayer --edge bottom --align right --transparent true --widthtype request --alpha 10 --heighttype pixel --height 30

Following steps solved this problem for me on Kubuntu 15.04

1) sudo apt-get install libappindicator3-1
2) manually install latest dropbox stable build

The Dropbox icon disappeared in Kubuntu 14.04.1 just a few days ago. I tried multiple suggestions from several websites - with no success.
