I confirm sudo apt-get remove displayconfig-gtk ran ok without incident. I had to manually remove 'Screens and Graphics' menu item in Applications>Other by deleting in System>Preferences>Main Menu.

I'm getting an 'Unknown' message in Monitor Resolution Settings window. Its a common Compaq V70. A smaller window says the same thing top left of the desktop.

How do we choose drivers and monitors now?
