Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

Two 750GB SATA disks joined into RAID1 array, which divided into 4 partitions:
1. pri NTFS WinXP (100G)
2. pri NTFS Userdata (240G)
3. pri efs4 / (55G)
4. log
5. ext swap (7.5G)
6. ext efs4 /home (295G)

I want to setup a dual-boot system with Alternate AMD64 DVD. An installation process stops at GRUB. I can try to setup GRUB again and again, no luck. If I chose to continue without boot loader, I get the following message:

"No boot loader has been installed, either because you chose not to or because your specific architecture doesn't support a boot loader yet.
You will need to boot manually with the /vmlinuz kernel on partition /dev/mapper/isw_bdgibehedh_Raid13 and root=/dev/mapper/isw_bdgibehedh_Raid13 passed as a kernel argument."

In syslog I see that WinXP partition discovered successfully but the / one didn't:

I'll test if 9.04 has the issue too ASAP.

9.04 amd64 has been installed successfully.
Meanwhile it didn't list WinXP in GRUB's menu.lst, although it recognize it while installing. However, it's an extraneous problem.

I get the same error WITHOUT Intel RAID. Ubuntu Studio Karmic 9.10 simply fails to install GRUB (at least GRUB 1), even if you follow the alleged workaround for a related problem documented here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8264172&postcount=12.

The fact that Ubuntu Studio won't install, and the developers admit the issue, seems to me to be what we'd call a STOP SHIP issue, and require the ISO images to be re-rolled with corrected code.

Take a look at Bug 465231. That was the problem I encountered. Is it the same problem you're having?
