Why is this bug triggered only by the Alternate disc for quite some time now and apparently Debian 5.1 DVD installation ?
(there must be some aspects of the installer that triggers the bug)
and then, could it be a way to circumvent/mitigate this bug by changing the drive parameters with hdparm and special command to slow down speed, reset the drive or maybe disable cache/DMA/PIO/prefetching/... ?
So it seems to be an hardware bug.
