"Create usb app" will not complete update after download

Bug Description
After runnng "create a USB startup disk" sucessfully, starting it up and running " update manager": get errors after download of files, during installation.
Cruzer 2 .0 GB titanium USB stick
Dell 530n w/ Ubuntu upgraded to 8.10 updated to current state.
