Looks like you ran out of disk space?

I could not log on using the USB so these are residual messages from my
530n which I used to send the error message, remaining from a previous
install try

Has anyone been able to use "Update manager" to upgrade the system
sucessfully while running Ubuntu 8.10 on a USB created with application
"create a usb startup disk "? I have tried 2 times with different USB
Sticks 4GB and 2GB with the same result.

Does the application work while running off of the USB Stick?

I bumped into this bug also. Used johnboy45's idea: (http://johnboy45.wordpress.com/2006/09/19/fixing-no-space-left-on-device-error-in-ubuntu-linux/)

sudo apt-get clean
sudo dpkg --configure -a

although it did not bypass the crash (and dpkg still says: "Aborted (core dumped)") -
at least rootfs goes from 100% usage to 66%.

This is a failure which occurs when the kernel is being installed by the installer appearing to be bad handling of a lack of disk space. This does not sound like a bug in the kernel itself and is more likely poor handling of disk space in the installer or apt. For now reassigning this to the installer.

affects: linux (Ubuntu) → debian-installer (Ubuntu)
Changed in debian-installer (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → Confirmed
