After submitting earlier today an on-line support form about this issue on the Epson USA site, I just received this reply:
"Please be advised that we do not support our printers with the type of operating system that you're using. Linux drivers for Epson products are supplied by Avasys Corporation.
Note: Neither Epson nor Avasys provide support for Linux drivers."
Just to clarify my current state - I can't print from my Kubuntu.

I see that you cannot only access your printer via USB but also via the network. Have you tried accessing it via the network? Does it work then?
Till Kamppeter (till-kamppeter) wrote : | #8 |
Can you attach the file which you tried to print? Can you tell which program you used and how and with which options you have printed?
Can you also follow the instructions of the section "Capturing print job data" on https:/
Boaz Dodin (bdcomp) wrote : | #9 |
I tried to print several files, from different programs (Firefox, Okular).
It's looks like no particular program related.
Via the network the same issue appear on Kubuntu.
On Windows XP (different PC) - everything is OK.

I cannot reproduce the bug, but I have a newer version of the driver: epson-inkjet-
dpkg -l | grep epson
If this does not happen, remove your print queue(s) for this printer and uninstall the driver:
dpkg -P epson-inkjet-
Then unplug the USB cable of the printer and re-plug it. If the printer does not get set up automatically, start system-
Does your printer work now?

Till, may I ask where did you find the 1.0.1 version of Epson driver?
The official download page below still offer the old 1.0.0 version:

Print queue removed.
Driver uninstalled.
USB cable of the printer unpluged and re-pluged.
dpkg -l | grep epson -> no output at all.

The program 'system-
apt-get install system-
The above result probably because of the fact I am on Kubuntu.
An additional info I am not sure the reason of - via the cups interface and via "system settings" -> "printer configuration", the printer appears still with old driver info.
Boaz Dodin (bdcomp) wrote : | #20 |
Now, the print job added to the cups interface in "stopped" state.
Also the printer doesn't do any anything (no sound at all) after printing document.
The "On" light not blinking.
Before the last changes it was different - the printer do sounds, like it's going to start print (maybe some self tests) and then the original error was appeared. The "On" light was blinking until powering off.

Epson has done a move of the driver hosting from Avasys to their own servers, perhaps this happened between the 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 vertsions of your driver, leading to automatic update not working on this transition and the 1.0.1 not being available at Avasys.

Click on the link for the DEB package for your system's architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) and the Software Center will pop up allowing you to download and install the driver via an "Install" button. An old version of this driver will be replaced by the installation and old print queues will get appropriately updated for the use of the new driver.
If you set up a print queue with any printer setup tool now, the new driver will get used for the queue.

After an update to cups 1.5.3-0ubuntu8 and installation of the just released PC-FAX Driver 1.0.0 from here:

my printer refuses to print again, exactly as the original issue.
Removing the fax package, removing the printer driver and installing the printer driver once again does not resolve the problem.
Will appreciate any help.

Looking at the error_log, the results are singularly unhelpful - just that the epson driver filter exited with status 1 but nothing is logged by the filter to say what it is doing...
You might try:
cupsctl LogLevel=debug2
and print something; perhaps the Epson driver is writing something as an INFO message - debug2 will capture that...

Well, all of that looks OK as well. Given that Epson/Avasys decided not to log anything at all from their driver, and there is nothing obviously wrong with the binary, there isn't much help *I* can provide...
Sorry...

Epson driver just does not work. I tried Ubuntu 14.04 with all available drivers, i always got filter error. If you try to call the filter from bash it says: "no such file or directory". I compiled the filter myself, then a cammand line call gave me "insufficient options" which looked promising, but the filter did not work. Unfortunately there is zero documentation for the filter, so i could not get it to spit out a log, althoug the source code has some debugging code. Openprinting.org gives information that is just a lie. This printer driver does not work. As last resort i chose "turboprint", a 30 EUR software which is not GPL but at least worked perfectly from the beginning. Even printing PDF files on a DVD surface on an Epson XP-750 works perfectly. I am running turboprint on a dedicated print server on Ubuntu 14.04 without X, this works perfectly, not the driver provided by epson.
Till Kamppeter (till-kamppeter) wrote : | #34 |
I have forwarded this bug report to the developers of Epson's drivers now. I hope they can fix the problem and add logging.
