Workaround: Install Webcamoid then laptop webcam works on HP 840 G3 Elitebook. Remove Cheese because of non-working status with this laptop.
Tested with Ubuntu 22.10 from live-usb.

Ubuntu 20.04 was the last version of Ubuntu desktop that Cheese worked as expected.
AlmaLinux 9.1 Cheese works as expected.
Fedora 36 Cheese works as expected.

I just bought a HP Elite Dragonfly G3 and I of course ran into this problem with cam. I have tried to install webcamoid but it didn't work!

I installed Ubuntu 22.10 on a liveusb then installed webcamoid using apt. I
then logged out then logged back in then webcamoid worked.

Didn't work for me, elite dragonfly g3 4J044AV
Tried other distro and cam didn't work either.
Stuck with pc without webcam.

Hi,
I have tried much of that... Bios updated too.
There is no /dev/video0 says v4l2
Can you confirm you managed to make camera work on HP Elite Dragonfly 13.5 inch G3 Notebook PC (4J044AV) ?
They say here (https://www.linuxnow.com.au) that they can ship it with ubuntu installed...

I do not own a HP Elite Dragonfly 13.5 inch G3 Notebook PC so I did not
get the webcam to work. My testing was done on a HP Elitebook 840 G3.

Cheese does work in Debian 12.2 Bookworm also.
So this appears to a Debian issue.
