I don't know most of the internals of Gnome, but if I read http://svn.gnome.org/viewcvs/nautilus/trunk/libnautilus-private/nautilus-search-engine.c?view=markup correctly, beagle should turn up as default search engine (see "#ifdef HAVE_BEAGLE").
