I Had exactly the same problem on my laptop HP Compaq Presario since Ubuntu 13.04 with Broadcom Wireless card :

 - my wi-fi card was nomore detected
 - the message "mount: / is busy" when shutting down and the process stopped

I"ve done what Nikolay explainded above. the resolution was visible on the second shut down.
