Bug Description

Binary package hint: apport

When trying to report a bug using:
ubuntu-bug linux
I tells me "The problem cannot be reported: This is not a genuine Ubuntu package"
I have not made any modifications to the Kernel.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Run "ubuntu-bug linux"
2. Answer all the questions apport asks you

What happens:
You will get a dialog stating "The problem cannot be reported: This is not a genuine Ubuntu package"

What you expect to happen:
It brings me to the web age where you finish filing the bug report

This has happened on every kernel in Lucid at least that i remember

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug 497796, so it is being marked as such. Please look at the other bug report to see if there is any missing information that you can provide, or to see if there is a workaround for the bug. Additionally, any further discussion regarding the bug should occur in the other report. Please continue to report any other bugs you may find.

How can this bug be a duplicate of 497796. It fails to report bug at first try and successfully reports bug if tried just after that without updating apt-cache. This problem only happens once after installing lucid

dino99, yes that is the mechanism the apt-cache should be updated.
I am downloading today's daily build to check if this exists in the latest
build

Yes, but when the crash can not see the bug to the developer, which does not fix bugs before the release

Omar, the statement you made see link below, is not correct. It fails to report the Kernel bug because the user is on an older kernel and can not report a bug on the updated kernel. It happens any time you try to report a bug on a kernel you are not booted into.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/527026/comments/3
This has nothing to do with installing*
The only way to get the info needed onto bug report you need to file bug without apport/ubuntu-bug than run apport-collect bug#

dino99:
This bug is not fixed yet,
also didn't know there was a PPA for Apport or kernel

But anyway, I'm not sure why you think apt-cache being updated is related to this bug report.
Please read the description more carefully

IIRC there is a bug on using apport to file bugs from PPA but this bug is not the same as that one.
