For what it's worth, The GIMP seems to suffer from a similar (if not exactly the same) issue. However, it does not crash:

(gimp:6718): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_icon_info_load_icon: assertion `icon_info != NULL' failed

The software continues like nothing went wrong.
