Bug Description

After today's update my brightness controls aren't working anymore. After checking the System Settings, Brightness and Lock there is no longer any brightness slider bar shown for manual setting either. So my screen is fixed on full brightness. I'll attach screen shots showing the difference before and after the update.

Same here.

The brightness controls on my MacBook Pro stopped working. The pop-up
that usually shows the brightness level does not longer pop up, and the
keys that adjust the brightness don't work anymore.

As a side note, the keys that control the keyboard backlight still work,
however the pop-up indicator does not change which each keypress, no
longer indicating the keyboard light level as it did only yesterday.

I've reproduced this on a MacBook Air 4,1. Everything is fixed if I back out g-s-d to 3.3.90-0ubuntu4.

Yes, I have problem with it too. My temporary solution is:

sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=xx

where 00:02.0 is my device (maybe works for you too) and xx is value in hex from 0 to ff - it works fine for me

I am create short script for console and for gui too, and create alias to ~/.bashrc for run that script. For now it is fastest changing brightness on my HP ProBook 4510s

At the same time, the issue with the keyboard backlight indicator was also fixed. :)

Well, it seems as if the bug's back. In addition, I am also not able to adjust the volume nor the keyboard backlight via my laptop's function keys.

System Settings > Brightness and Lock does not display the brightness settings.

I also had similar problem. It was solved by reinstalling the linux
firmware drivers using synaptic

Same here on a Lenovo Thinkpad W510. The brightness sliider in settings does not work as well as the hardware keys. I am using Nvidia drivers. What is also interesting is that I rebooted 2 times before now and the hardware keys did not even bring up the brightness slider overlay on the top right, but after the latest reboot it appears it is back but just doesn't do anything.

Elijah, open a new issue or look for an existing issue e.g. I think bug 776590 covers this problem.
