Bug Description

The default way to emulate a three buttons mouse is to use touches F11 & F12. that make the buttons very anti-ergonomic.

an other way (i personally ever do that modification) is to use
that lines in /etc/sysctl.conf:

dev/mac_hid/mouse_button_emulation = 1
dev/mac_hid/mouse_button2_keycode = 97
dev/mac_hid/mouse_button3_keycode = 100

that way we cant use touchpad with right hand and buttons with left hand, without breaking arms...

What do you use instead of F11 and F12 ?

Also, think to people having an external mouse. (like iMac and other).

i use fn+ctrl for middle button, and fn+alt for right button.
it's really ergonomic, & create no conflict with anything. i use a usb-mouse at home, it make no problem, and make F11 & F12 free for other functions (think to compiz, or tilda, for example)

personally, I use the right "apple" key for middle click and the "enter" key for right. these keys are otherwise useless (unless you want a compose -- but capslock is better for that).

Thanks for your report. Your idea might get more attention and have the possibility of being implemented if you submit a specification for it. First check whether the idea is already registered <https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+specs>, and if so, contact the specification's drafter about your ideas. Otherwise, you can start writing a spec yourself. <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeatureSpecifications>.

You'll probably want to discuss it in forums first. Also, please note that what is ergonomic for right-handed users may be much less so for left-handed users.

I'd recommend submitting a specification for a configuration manager that will handle such changes, without requiring the user to manually edit config files.

I'm closing this bug out, as it's not so much a bug report as a feature request.
