As I have said in my original report, I installed the kubuntu-desktop package from synaptic. When I selected kubuntu, the gnome-panel is also shown. I guess it is related with turning off the gnome-panel when a kubuntu session is selected. maybe you can automate the process for that.
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 beta1 now, but i still hope this is fix if a user opted to install both Gnome and KDE on their desktop. I guess the problem here is loading the right applications for the current desktop and not loading those applications or even icons from the other desktop as well.
