Bug Description

I have Ubuntu 9.04 on my netbook. Recently, I tried installing the kubuntu-desktop through Synaptic Package Manager. After the installation, however, the Gnome panel (2.26.0) shows on display during a KDE session. I expected to see a normal KDE session, with the KDE panel but the gnome panel displayed as well on top like in a Gnome session.

There's probably something that initiated the gnome-panel to load on startup. This report is old. Have you tried this in Ubuntu 9.10?

As I have said in my original report, I installed the kubuntu-desktop package from synaptic. When I selected kubuntu, the gnome-panel is also shown. I guess it is related with turning off the gnome-panel when a kubuntu session is selected. maybe you can automate the process for that.

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 beta1 now, but i still hope this is fix if a user opted to install both Gnome and KDE on their desktop. I guess the problem here is loading the right applications for the current desktop and not loading those applications or even icons from the other desktop as well.

jdetras, Ubuntu 10.04 has finally been released. Can you confirm if this is still a bug in Lucid?

This is still the case on Natty. I installed KDE-Desktop, launched into KDE instead of Gnome, and all the Gnome panels are still loading. I was running Gnome Classic before.
