Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Is it only the status light or also the wireless device that doesn't work anymore?

Which release of Hardy are you using?

Thank,
Wim

I used to have troubles with my acer Travelmate until i used the acerhk driver. This driver can be downloaded at http://cakey.de/acerhk/
Then i was able to control the led via following command:

echo 1 > /proc/driver/acerhk/wirelessled

i also putted "options ipw2200 led=1" in /etc/modprobe.d/ipw2200
ipw2200 because i have a intel 2200BG card, you can try it with "ipw3945"

Same problem here with a Intel 3945ABG device on a Vaio VGN-SZ2M.
I cant' find a file like /etc/modprobe.d/ipw2200 or /etc/modprobe.d/ipw3945.
I also try to load wireless module "sudo modprobe ipw3945" but get an error: "FATAL: Module ipw3945 not found."

btw... wireless connection works fine and in Gutsy status led is working.

Same here on my Dell Latitude D820 with the same wireless card. I don't have a '/etc/modprobe.d/ipw3945' file, or anything similar in that directory.

Wifi connection works perfectly, there is just no light.

On the lenovo thinkpad R61i the Led turns on, but doesn't flash during
scan or activity as it did in gutsy.
It turned on for me with the update of the kernel-modules 2.6.24-16.

If you have full bars it should be connected to something?. The light
isn't very important and enabling the hardy backport modules for
2.6.24-16 fixed the light for me.... The problem must lie elsewhere.
Check /etc/resolv.conf and make sure it points to your DNS server
(Sometimes this can be your gateway address if your router is handling
DHCP/DNS setup)

Also troubleshoot from the command line like:

ping localhost
ping 64.233.169.104
ping www.google.com

if the first two work and the last doesn't. Its DNS as 64.233.169.104
is google.com

Also look at ifconfig and iwconfig for info, and check your /etc/hosts
file to make sure it makes sense and has entries for localhost.

Hope this helps.

If your having DNS problems this will connect you to the OpenDNS servers

#sudo nano -w /etc/resolv.conf

edit the file to read:

*nameserver 208.67.222.222*
*nameserver 208.67.220.220*

I also tried for a very shot time ubuntu hardy (32 bit) in my vostro 1400 and the wireless light wasn't working but the connection was normal.
I know that the same happens with the dell inspiron 1420. Both machines have a ipw3945 card.

Some strange behavior for the Acer Travelmate 8215. Both WLAN and LED work, if the driver is restarted manually. Kill switch can be used to turn off WLAN, but not to turn it on again. Therefore, the module has to be unloaded and loaded again.
