Bug Description
Hi there
I have a Hp Pavillion 2135LA (dv 2000). I installed the ubuntu 6.06 and the laptop was always really ovearheat, then I upgraded to 6.10 - 7.04 and it was the same.
Also I have the problem with the battery life, it only works for 1 hour. So I think the problem for the battery is because the overheat of the laptop.
I am monitoring the temperature of the laptop and usually it is around 65 celsius, but some times it is in 70, 80, or even 92.
So I dont know what to do, if the problem is of the hardware, it is a bug, or what??
The part that is really hot is where the hard drive is

same platform, form factor...even having two different versions of Ubuntu - the problem is similar

it seems so. do you have the same issue on windows or is just ubuntu
related?
As far as i'm concerned the issue is just with ubuntu. can you confirm that?

yeah in my case it seems the problem is only with ubuntu

You know, I've found some fix to this on the ubuntuforums.org: http://
Include theese lines to your /etc/modules and reboot! You would notice the difference very quickly :)

ac
thermal
processor
acpi-cpufreq
cpufreq-userspace

Take the last advice as a "patch" but where to fix in sources?

Well
I was getting the problem worse, because the power cable was also over heating.
So I call HP and ask it for the warranty, they give me the ticket number and went to the store and one of the people there told me that this model the HP Pavillion 2135 has some over heat problems and it is because a little metal (looks like aluminium paper) close to the hard driver.
They tested the machine and discovered that the fan was also broken so they changed, remove this little metal thing, and everything has been working fine since

lol! their repair is to downgrade you're video card, and there bios "fix" is to reduce your shared video memory from 256, to eaither 128, to 64.
wtf! I'm not eligible for repair becasue my computer still runs... which is of course becasue i've been monitoring the heat, becasue linux has sensors that i can actually see... really tho... never buying an hp again...
We may need some info on the hardware of your laptop
should a lshw be enoguh?
on the terminal do:
sudo lshw
sudo lshal
and paste/upload the results here.
With that we might bre able to see if it's something that is common in this kind (or any similar) chipset.
Anybody else having this problem?
