I'm currently working on a Dell Inspiron 531s and am receiving the same error message (dell_smm_hwmon: unable to get SMM Dell signature) as Suman Mummaneni above. I just installed a fresh copy of Lubuntu 16.04 64 bit on this system from DVD. The workaround mentioned here...

did not work for me. At the same time, I would like to avoid using any workarounds that potentially disable services or features. I would like to request that this issue be investigated and a patch released. If you need any additional information while I still have this system (which might not be long,) please feel free to ask.
