Actually nano uses loads of ctrl+key combos so adding ctrl+x would only make it possible to quit nano, not to actually use it. Why not simply add a ctrl key? There are numerous other programs where you need it, and ssh:ing into a server to fix something and then realizing you can't even quit the program you opened is no fun.
