@mpt When I open Ubuntu Arabic font in FontForge, I see that the bulgy YEH is defined only once, here:

65264 (0xfef0) U+FEF0 "uniFEF0" ARABIC LETTER ALEF MAKSURA FINAL FORM

All the other instances are linked to this design.

And the isolated form of YEH (which has a different problem, but you can also see in my last attached image) is defines here:

1609 (0x649) U+0649 "uni0649" ARABIC LETTER ALEF MAKSURA
