I've removed locally installed user fonts on OSX and installed the .ttf files from the 0.83 release, but when I type in the font preview box of the OSX Font Book app, the first chars are displayed correctly but after typing a handful I get the dreaded 8/9s again.
This is with OSX 10.10.5.
Separately, under Chrome 44.0 visiting web sites using Google fonts I still get the incorrect rendering for the chars; https://www.google.com/fonts/specimen/Ubuntu does mention an August 2014 (!) update to 0.83, but the typecast preview still has the issue, despite clearing my browser's cached files.
