This is easy to reproduce.

Here's a test case:
1. Download the Ubuntu Regular font from http://font.ubuntu.com
2. Install it on your Mac running Yosemite
3. Launch the free Pages app.
4. Try typing any text using double quotes like "hello, world!" and you'll see it as 8hello, world!9
5. This is uniformly and consistently reproducible for me - I can make it happen 100% of the time on 3 difference Macs.
