This is not limited to Keynote. It also occurs in Pages, TextEdit and Sketch. It occurs in the latest versions of all those apps, and more, on the latest version of Yosemite.

I also see opening quotes rendered as 8 and closing quotes rendered as 9.

Turning off smart quotes in Pages seems to help.

I have never seen this with any other font. It seems to be a serious issue with Ubuntu (but regular, it doesn't seem to happen in the Ubuntu monospace font).

Any ideas?

We need a fix - this is making it very difficult, almost impossible, to use Ubuntu Regular on OS X.
