Bug Description

When installing Ubuntu 24.04 from USB onto a Dell XPS 13, the install hangs. I have tried >10 times, and the hangs occur in different places.

The installer has hung on every page (language, keyboard, copying files, etc). Typically, the progress bars (e.g., the spinning ubuntu logo, or "copying files") spin until I interrupt (at least 5 minutes, but as long as 6 hours). Sometimes I can advance progress by clicking back and next again, but this eventually fails and I get to a page that says something went wrong. Clicking show log shows an empty window.

In all cases, I have tested with AC power.

I had a LUKS/LVM disk. I reformatted; no change.

I have tried with and without wifi.

I have mostly tried default minimal installations, but also some variations like LVM; no change.

Safe mode gives the same results.

Thank you for your bug report. Could you add the logs from/var/log/installer after getting the problem?

Here's my first attempt to get installer logs. I'll call this session 20240520-1530. Logs, screenshots, and system info are in https://harts.net/tmp/launchpad-bug-2064052/.

This is using the same laptop on the same network with exactly the same iso and usb device. I got an error that I hadn't received before.

The laptop booted as expected and being starting the installer. I then got "We're sorry, but we're not sure what the error is..."

I'll try the installation again later and perhaps recreate the earlier errors I was getting.
