Hi,

I'm not running tests in the gate, I'm running them when building the Debian package. You can try using Debian Sid, or using the Wheezy backport repository (see the official install-guide if you need to know how). This is, not using a virtual env, but just using the packaged build-dependencies, and building the package with git-buildpackage (but using dpkg-buildpackage with the source package in Debian is also fine).

Also, note that this happened also with the 2014.1 release, not only with the RC1. If you need, just chat with me on IRC (my nick name is zigo).
