:aceman just fixed bug 529584 which is also about the result set in recipient autocomplete, so the patch there (attachment 803332) might be good starting point to identify the right spot in the code.

And to everyone following this bug, if you have an interest in getting this fixed, even if you're not a code, it would have been a good idea to ensure that it isn't "assigned" to somebody who stopped working on this in 2008, because that will tell any other potential coder that there's nothing to do here because it's already taken by someone... :|
